Police in Guangdong province have arrested 540 suspects in the participation and organization of a network online soccer betting, in which bets were accepted in bitcoins totaling more than 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion). This writes Xinhuanet.

The organizers of the gambling sites were the 20 members of criminal gangs. The police have frozen the assets of five million yuan, and seized cryptocurrency for 10 million yuan (us$1.4 million).

Law enforcement authorities also closed down about 70 mobile apps, websites, 250 groups in social networks and messengers, which the suspects conducted the activity. Eight months, about 330 thousand participants bid on these platforms.

Note, in China since the mid-twentieth century, the activities of the bookmaker is illegal. However, in Macau and Hong Kong sports betting are banned.
