The purpose of the algorithm ProgPow (Programmatic Proof-of-Work the classic PoW) — to increase the stability of Ethereum for ASIC mining to support so small miners using graphics cards and CPUs, and reduce the risk of centralization of the network.
The Svend said:
I would venture to suggest that if we postpone Constantinople until January or February, I might try to incorporate ProgPoW.
ProgPoW previously been discussed at meetings of key developers, and the decision was made to add it to the next after Constantinople hard forks (in case of consensus).
On Friday, Hudson Jameson, a specialist Ethereum Foundation of communications, acknowledged that developers have a lot to do to prepare for the launch of Constantinople in the core network Ethereum.
