Next Monday, September 24, the UN General Assembly will discuss the economic and social potential of blockchain technology. The discussion will be part of the 73-meeting of the Assembly in the headquarters of UN in new York.

The official theme of the Symposium was formulated as follows: “the Blockchain as a public good: applying the blockchain to promote economic growth”. This session will be chaired by the Blockchain Charity Foundation (BCF), Finance Center for South-South Cooperation (FCSSC) and Global Women Political Leaders Forum (WPL). It is expected that the session will start with the opening speech of the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro of Prek (Marie Louise Coleiro Preca), after which the members will start the discussion at the round table and presentations of the international blockchain projects.

“We at the BFC firmly believe that the blockchain will radically change the world by bringing transparency, greater confidence and efficiency in the field of philanthropy, and also contributes to poverty reduction, creation of new jobs and economic growth”, — said the head of the BFC Helen Hai (Helen Hai). “BFC is pleased to cooperate with international organizations and industry leaders to hand out on this new path.”

The UN and its departments are already actively using the blockchain. So, in November last year, the Organization signed an agreement with World Identity Network to create a blockchain system designed to prevent trafficking in children, and its children’s Fund Unicef has implemented mining and smart contracts in the fundraising process.
