The Ethereum developers are discussing an update that can significantly enhance the potential of the technology in the short term. As reported by Coindesk, the discussions are held behind closed doors.

Protocol four confidential meetings that took place in the framework of the conference Devcon4 was published on Github by engineer Ethereum virtual machine Greg Colvin (Greg Colvin) on Friday. According to the document containing the plans for the upgrade under the name “Ethereum 1x”, the update will probably be activated in June 2019.

It should be noted, before any information about such meetings were reported, and the majority of developers did not respond to a request to comment or denied that he knew about the plans mentioned on GitHub Manager releases client Parity, sedan the Afri (Afri Schoedon).

Meanwhile, according to the newspaper, at one of the meetings was attended by the co-founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterin, the founder of the largest Ethereum-startup Consensys Systems Joseph Lubin (Lubin Joseph), and other prominent figures of the community, including Rettig lane (Lane Rettig), Peter Silage (Peter Szilagyi) and Handsome jameson (Jameson Hudson).

However, the veracity of the information was confirmed to journalists by one of the participants, who wished to remain anonymous. According to him, the developers are convinced that the project is still in too early stage to discuss it publicly.

Revision Coindesk suggests that one of the reasons why the team is in no hurry to share information, can be the difference in positions of the “veterans” as to how more effective to get feedback of the community on the technical proposals at the stage of forming ideas.

As in other public and private networks, blockchain, Ethereum is required to adopt the consensus decisions of users of the software in case of any changes in the rules, although the changes in code are usually offered by the developers.

Judging by the nature of the document and indicated the determining principle of the project is the “sense of urgency” — the developers of Ethereum may experience some pressure on the need to expand its public road map in such a way to add improvements that will allow us to move the dates. So, meeting participants considered the possibility of integrating some changes, not previously planned in 2019, in a wide system upgrade — hardwork, scheduled for June of next year.

A series of updates that presumably includes replacement of Ethereum virtual machine (EVM), manufacturing code of smart contracts. Also we are talking about a kind of “rent” or fee for storage, smart contracts, which will restrain the growth of the Ethereum blockchain (currently about 1 terabyte for the full archival gcd), which should be supported by all participating nodes.

The main objectives pursued by the developers, include a “slight, successive” upgrade “as much feedback as possible” and “data-oriented analysis” as the basis of motivation for change.

The team had previously discussed the introduction of eWASM alternatively, the EVM, which should provide a faster and more flexible approach to computation in Ethereum.

Lease payments and similar mechanisms for limiting the rate of growth of the blockchain also has already been addressed publicly, but as noted Buterin during the meeting, they can request a “major revision”.

It is noteworthy that during the meeting, the developers noted the advantages of working in the closed mode that is required for a more rapid coordination of changes. Reportedly, Buterin, insisting on the greatest possible transparency, said the lack of comfort when forced “private calls from the institutions” and its firm position “against the private forums”.

Sedan, in contrast, demonstrated a dissatisfaction in relation that plans were discussed without the participation of the public:

“If you want to have a closed working groups, it is good and reasonable, but you should be transparent and, perhaps, to begin with public statements.”

Currently known about the three working groups formed: one for changes associated with the EVM, and the other to discuss ways to reduce costs of service smart contracts and the third, whose purpose-to simulate the effects of such a change.

The next developers ‘ meeting will be held on November 30, while the preliminary date of the next hard forks of Ethereum Constantinople 16 Jan.
