The Canton of Zug, where the Swiss “Cryptocoryne”, in the framework of the experiment will vote on several municipal issues on the Ethereum blockchain.

We will remind, autumn of last year in Zug was launched a system of digital identification on the basis of Ethereum, in particular, with the use of the identification platform uPort. In the course of the experiment approximately 200 citizens and residents of Zug, registered in the system, which assigns each user ID uPort, will take part in the voting on the blockchain.

According to local media, the voters will answer a series of questions — for example, “are they for fireworks at annual Lakeside Festival the festival” and “whether they think that digital ID you must use in order to take out library books or pay Parking”.

In addition, users will be surveyed about their attitudes to the potential use of the digital ID on the basis of the blockchain for voting in referendums in the future.

“After downloading the mobile app uPort citizen of Zug uPort registers its ID in the blockchain Ethereum. This globally unique identifier — address of the smart contract, known as a proxy uPort contract”, — said the representative of the project.

The user then enters their personal identification information, the correctness of which is confirmed official from the administration. In that case, if the identity is confirmed and there are no questions, the user gets to their uPort ID “identity digital citizenship”, which is a kind of “digital certification” citizen with “active citizenship”.

As reported, the experimental results of the vote will be analyzed by the administration of the Canton, and probably published in the report.

According to the organizers of the experiment, the system is potentially able to solve the problem, common to all world electoral systems voting based on trust. Despite some technological progress in this field, to exclude completely the possibility of fraud during the vote is still impossible. In turn, a lack of trust often leads to social unrest in some countries, especially developing ones.

With the technology of the blockchain is the ability to verify the voting results will appear from ordinary citizens. However, the successful functioning of such a system will require the use of complex cryptography to achieve real anonymity on the one hand, and absolute protection against attempts to gain access to information by hackers on the other.

However, the potential transition from a system of voting based on trust, a solution where the need for such trust is hardly ever probably has some prospects.
Recall that certain steps in this direction were already made in Brazil and Indonesia.

On the other hand, the fact that a similar experiment will be conducted in Switzerland, a state that has its own “Cryptocoryne” used, however, is far from the maximum capabilities, again allows to speak about some progress. We will remind, some days ago it became known that in the country there was the first Bank to open business account on blockchain and CryptoStream.
