The retail division of the Auchan Holding will use the blockchain FoodChain to create “passports” for food. The documents contain information about the manufacturer, the packer, the point distribution, chemical composition and other data. Buyers can consult this information by scanning the QR code located on the product packaging.

Direct developer identification service became a German blockchain startup TE-FOOD, specializing in the use of DLT in the supply chain of food products. The French company already held a series of successful tests blockchain passports in the supermarket chain “Auchan” in Vietnam and now intends to use the technology in their stores in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Senegal.

In addition to the section for the buyers, the application includes the inventory system for product inspection for the presence of the required certificates and the interface is phased update the status of the products for the operators of logistics services.

The introduction of blockchain technology in supply chain included in the program of local-global initiatives Auchan Retail. In the press release dedicated to the emergence of blockchain-passports in five additional markets, the company added a brief explanation:

“Using tools for traceability available in the countries of implementation of our initiatives, and also due to a certain compatibility of the various blockchain-technologies (both open and private), this practice can be deployed quickly on the ground.”

The same platform is developing a chain of American supermarkets Walmart, but it will be used for quality control of herbs — at least at launch.
