Judging by the content of recent patent applications Walmart, the retail giant is exploring the possibility of practical application of the blockchain technology, the most recent one involves its use in the field of automated drones to deliver goods.

In the application, published on August 30, describes a system in which “Autonomous electronic devices” communicate with each other wirelessly, and pass each other traveling objects after completion of the identification process.

After one drone moves to the location where the other drone, they are using a “blockchain-key” authenticating the exchanged signals, then the first robot passes the second your cargo, if successfully recognize the “colleague”. In their work, the drones would rely on a database of delivery stored in the blockchain of the company.

According to the patent application, in the process of identifying the robots send each other signals, which can use a variety of means, including RFID codes, QR codes or ultrasound.
In addition, each robot can be endowed with unique characteristics that other drones were easier to identify.

Also, according to the proposal, the use of automated technology is seen as a way to reduce the time for provision of “confidence” in this type of delivery. According to Walmart, what consumers need, in fact, imbued with confidence that their products will deliver the flying machine, “raises a number of issues related to security,” and requires a reliable identification system for drones.

Blockchain system described in the application, consists of “sets of nodes, configured to generate computational proof of data integrity and the chronological order of the use of the content, trading and/or exchange currency in P2P network”, and “each node works on finding a difficult for your PoW block”. According to Walmart, this system can also build smart contracts.

Walmart is actively working on various practical applications of blockchain technology for their business. In particular, the company recently filed a patent application on the use of the blockchain in the management of “smart” appliances and the monitoring of delivery.
