Earlier this week the Hong Kong exchange said that in the attack the users have lost about 40 000 ETC, promising to compensate losses for its own account.

However, on Saturday, representatives of the Gate.io said that at least half of this amount an unknown hacker, she returned. The company also noted that he had tried to contact the hacker, but so far no reply received. The reasons for which she returned the funds, the exchange also does not know.

“If the organizer of the attack did not seek for gain, it can be a white hacker, who wanted to remind people about the risks that are inherent in the consensus of the block chain and security, which provides computing power”, — is spoken in the message exchange.

Also, representatives of the Gate.io said that the current Hasrat network ETC is still not high enough, which leaves the possibility of another attack 51% through the rental of computing power.

Currently for the successful implementation of transactions ETC at the Gate.io need 4000 confirmations. The exchange believes this will increase the level of security, and encourages other platform to take similar measures to protect traders.

We will remind, earlier the investment company Grayscale Investments assured its customers that it sees no direct risk to the assets of the Fund in Ethereum Classic after earlier this week the network of cryptocurrency was attacked by 51%.
