Hacker group TheDarkOverlord said that he got secret information associated with the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 and threaten to expose her if he doesn’t get bitcoin. The ransom amount is not disclosed.

According to a message posted on Twitter on 31 December, the group stole thousands of documents from insurance companies, including Lloyds of London, Silverstein Properties and Hiscox Syndicates. Now hackers are threatening to publish the contents of these files, which, according to them, “give the answers” to some of the conspiracy theories associated with terrorist attacks if their ransom demands are not met.

The representative of the Group Hiscox in the comments of the Motherboard confirmed that hackers managed to access sensitive files of a law firm that provided Advisory services to the company.

“System of a law firm not connected to the it infrastructure Hiscox and Hiscox’s own systems were not affected during the incident.

One of the cases that the law firm was led for Hiscox and other insurers, on the judicial proceedings related to the events of September 11, and we believe that this information was stolen during the attack,” he said.

According to Motherboard, the hacker group has already published a small collection of letters mentioning different law firms, Federal aviation administration, the United States and the TSA. These documents do not contain any secret information, but the hackers are threatening to disclose more data.

As proof of his threats, the hackers posted a link to an archive with the stolen documents with a size of 10 GB. At the moment this file is encrypted, but extortionists are going to open parts of the documents contained in it, until they get the ransom.

TheDarkOverlord also blackmails individuals and companies, information about which is contained in these documents, offering to pay them for the fact that their names were deleted from them.

We will remind, in December unknown bitcoin ransomware sent to individuals, companies and organizations around the world letters with threats of a bomb.
