Jamie Redman, author of hundreds of publications covers topics Finance and cryptocurrencies since 2011. The original article was published on the website Bitcoin.com accordingly, bitcoin (BTC) is represented as Bitcoin Core.

In the world of the cryptocurrency markets in the last six months was the direct opposite of growth 2017. From the beginning of 2018 the majority of digital assets have lost 60-90% of the cost. Below we describe what the cryptocurrency markets have demonstrated the best performance, and then refer to the cryptocurrency, the loss of which this year was the highest. The time interval used to measure profit and loss, — from January 7 to 25 July 2018, that is less than seven months.

BTC holds the first place in the top 10, 2018

7 January 2018 prices remained high; most of the coins that have reached historic highs in December, cost a little less than a month before.

The first ten positions in the cryptocurrency market was Bitcoin Core (BTC — $17 131), Ripple (XRP — $3,19), Ethereum (ETH — $1097), Bitcoin Cash (BCH — $2881), Cardano (ADA — $1,01), litecoin (LTC — $300), NEM (XEM — us $1.67), Stellar (XLM — $0,70), Tron (TRX — $0.17) and IOTA (MIOTA — $4). Now, six months later, each coin is worth a lot less and a list of the ten currencies with the highest market capitalisation is different.

Let’s look at ten leading coins from the 7th of January 2018. We will see that since their position is significantly weakened (losses are expressed in percent):

  • Bitcoin Core (BTC): July 25, price is $8244, indicating that the loss in the amount of 51.87%;
  • the Ethereum (ETH) lost 57,06%;
  • Ripple (XRP) — 85,89%;
  • Bitcoin Cash (BCH) — 71,22%;
  • Cardano (ADA) — 84,15%;
  • litecoin (LTC) — 71,33%;
  • Stellar (XLM) — is 57.14%;
  • IOTA (MIOTA) — 75,75%;
  • Tron (TRX) and NEM (XEM) left the top ten and lost their seats and Tether EOS (USDT).

We see that the first ten cryptocurrency was far from success. The best performance belong to BTC. In the second place, Ethereum, the third — XLM.

The worst performance in the top 10 in 2018 showed XRP, ADA and IOTA, in addition to those that were excluded from the list. What bitcoin has achieved the greatest success in 2018? This is a number of new and perhaps unfamiliar to the reader of coins.

Top ten cryptocurrencies at the moment

The best performance in the first half of 2018 belong Paccoin ($PAC) calling themselves “the third generation of cryptocurrency”. Paccoin rose 1481,33% this year; however, one coin is now worth less than half of an American penny.

UPD from the author. However, Paccoin produced denomination: 1000 old coins is now given a new one, so that the community has rightly questioned the actual growth of the cryptocurrency.

Another cryptocurrency is experiencing in this year of growth — Hexx (HXX) (+1268,96%). These two coins followed by Mithril (MITH +922,52%), Casinocoin (CSC +139,63%) and Ontology (ONT +109,14%).

Such coins as Ontology, was launched months after 7 January 2018

The worst performance this year, the coins lost from the beginning, almost all of its value (falling prices also expressed in percent):

  • digital asset Rise not lived up to its name (“Lift”), losing 97,01%);
  • followed by Coin OP (-98,23%) and Mybit Token (-99,59), which now are not worth practically nothing.

Let’s not forget about the fork Bitcoin Gold (BTG), since the value of the cryptocurrency almost vanished: from the first week of January, she collapsed on 89,38%. In 2018, the losses suffered, a large part of the cryptocurrency market, and successful players mentioned above — a rarity among the 1600 odd existing cryptocurrencies.

However, a little more than three weeks ago the prices were even more bleak, and the majority of cryptocurrencies have experienced since then, some growth. The traders cryptocurrency of the top ten, I hope that this movement indicates a change of trend, which will soon become ascendant. Although several little-known coins received in this year’s solid profit in the second half of 2018, everyone’s attention will be riveted to the ten largest cryptocurrency markets.
