The Secretary-General of the securities and exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand , RAPI Sucharitakul (Rapee Sucharitakul) reported that the regulator has already received 20 applications for a license to operate as a cryptocurrency exchange.

The law on the treatment of cryptocurrencies in the country was approved by Royal decree in may of this year, and on 16 July he began acting. Under its provisions, companies that intend to provide services in the cryptocurrency trading, should obtain the approval of the SEC before beginning operations.

“Many companies interested in the opening exchanges of digital assets, said that trade in digital currencies and digital assets in the Thai market is quite active,” — said the head of the regulator.

In addition, the SEC Thailand has already received 50 applications for the ICO, regulations which also came into force on 16 July. However, the regulator cannot grant permissions to individual projects because they must first get approval from ICO-portals — licensed venues for the primary offerings of coins.

At the moment of the five concerned in the organization of the ICO company portals documents to obtain the relevant license from the regulator filed three, said Sucharitakul.

Earlier it was reported that the Association of the companies securities (ASCO) of Thailand organization representing market participants have applied to the SEC for obtaining collective licenses for running a crypto currency exchange the group participants.
