Investigate the possibility of establishing a state of digital currencies are about 70% of the Central banks in the world, however, the practical implementation of the projects started only a few of them. This is stated in the report of the Bank for international settlements (BIS).

BMR specialists analyzed the approaches to create the retail and inter-Bank digital currency 63 leading Central banks.

“Compared with 2017 the number of banks engaged in experimental work with digital currencies increased by 15%. However, most of the projects are analytical and do not indicate that banks have specific plans to release such assets. Only five banks have managed to create a usable pilot projects”, — the report says.

According to the BIS study, the most advanced in this matter, Sweden and Uruguay. So, the Central Bank of Sweden working on a project is prepaid, traceable and non-interest electronic crown from the beginning of 2017.

The draft Uruguay to create e-peso for the blockchain successfully completed in April 2018. Currently the Bank assesses the prospects for further work in this direction.

“The motives for the release of the state of digital currencies largely original, for example, reducing the amount of Fiat in circulation. At this stage, the majority of Central banks are not confident that the benefit from the launch of such assets outweigh the costs. In addition, often desire to apply a new technology faces a lack of modern infrastructure for their implementation. This trend is likely to continue in the near future”, — summed up in the BIS.

We will remind, in November of 2018, the international monetary Fund urged Central banks to issue digital currencies.
