The largest manufacturer of mining equipment, Bitmain is planning to release a flagship ASIC devices of new generation in anticipation of the expected in may of halving bitcoin. This reports the South China Morning Post.

According to company representatives, the device S17 and T17 will be equipped with a 7-nm chips. Last 30% more efficient than previous generation chips.

New ASIC miners will be released at the end of this year. In Bitmain hope that on the eve of halving and expected by majority of market participants growth of bitcoin prices, the demand for more efficient devices will be high.

This strategy has already been successfully tested by the Chinese mining giant. So, in the run-up to the previous halving, in 2016, the company released the Antminer S9. This model enjoyed a very high popularity in the world and even a year after its appearance on the market, S9 accounted for about 60% of the total sales of Bitmain.

However, some experts believe that the new range of devices is unlikely to bring “mountains of gold”, as market competition has increased significantly. So, last summer Canaan Creative has introduced AvalonMiner A9 7-nanometer chip. According to some, the main competitor of Bitmain in March attracted “hundreds of millions” in investments, after which the capitalization of the company exceeded $1 billion.

While the business of the company is not very good — Bitmain closes offices, cuts staff, and changing leadership.
