Turkish police detained 11 people suspected in the theft of bitcoins worth more than $80 000, Cointelegraph reports, citing local newspaper Hürriyet.

Earlier the police said 14 people, saying that their bitcoin wallets were hacked and all were there, the cryptocurrency was developed. The damage is estimated at 437 000 Turkish Lira, or over $80 000. It is assumed that a group of hackers transferred the bitcoin into many other accounts, to confuse the marks and then exchange it for Fiat money.

Law enforcement agencies began an investigation into the alleged compromise of email victims of these wallets and passwords. According to the results, 26 October the Department for combating cybercrime in cooperation with the Department of special operations detained 11 people in various parts of Istanbul.

One of the detainees was released, but left under judicial supervision, the rest were taken into custody. During the operation, police seized 2 counterfeit driver’s licenses, phones and 18 SIM cards, 22 memory cards and other items.

It is reported that some of the suspects, cybersecurity experts traced during login to their accounts on the exchanges. Others figured out when trying to withdraw money through ATMs and Bank branches.
