In partnership with Microsoft and the operator of the new York stock exchange (NYSE) Corporation Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the popular network of coffee houses Starbucks will offer its customers the opportunity to buy a drink with bitcoins. This writes CNBC.

Starbucks has become one of the participants in the project to create a platform Bakkt, which will allow users and institutional investors to buy, sell and store digital assets in the global ecosystem. Other partners of the project, the launch of which is expected in autumn of this year, steel Intercontinental Exchange, Microsoft and BCG.

Ecosystem Bakkt will include regulated at the Federal level, stock exchange, custodian services, applications for merchants and users. Bitcoin, as the most liquid cryptocurrency, will be the first listing of the new platform and will be traded in pairs with Fiat currencies.

The platform will also allow Starbucks to implement accepting bitcoin in its chain of coffee shops, automatically converting it into Fiat at the time of payment.

“Starbucks as a leading retailer will play a key role in the development of practical, reliable and controlled application, allowing customers to convert digital assets into the dollar. As a leader in the Mobile Pay and covering more than 15 million participants in the rewards program, Starbucks is committed to innovation and expansion of payment options for its customers,” the statement said Maria Smith, Vice President for partnerships and payments for Starbucks.

The introduction of bitcoins for such a large network, like Starbucks, will definitely help bitcoin in conquering the traditional markets, and can also have a positive impact on the price of the first cryptocurrency, which is a big part of 2018 is in a negative trend.

“This is very big news for bitcoin, because people ask where it can be spent. Now it will be possible at any Starbucks, — said CEO of the investment firm BKCM Brian Kelly. – Starbucks sees the demand for the adoption of bitcoin, and their partnership with such a huge regulated by the Institute as the ICE is very positive news for the entire cryptocurrency space.”

Note that the bitcoin as payment are already taking large companies such as Microsoft, and Overstock for selling tickets and booking hotels CheapAir. At the same time, Expedia earlier this year from the support of bitcoin declined.
