According to the company Transdev, operator of the tram system, Luas Dublin, this morning the site was hacked by a professional hacker that have put at risk personal data 3226 users.

The attacker left on the web-site threatening to publish all the obtained data and to send letters to users, if within 5 days he will not be paid a ransom of 1 BTC. In addition, the attacker accused the management of the Luas in that it ignored the message, when he warned about a serious vulnerability in the service.

Later it became known that hackers gained access to personal information of subscribers of the mailing list Luas – during the day the company promised to inform them of the situation.

In Transdev also decided to seek help at the Commission for personal data protection and encouraged users to refrain from referring site for Luas. However, according to one of the consultants in IT security, a hacker is bluffing, because the website contains information on transport timetables and route maps, and not personal data.

Due to an ongoing issue, please do not click onto the Luas website. We currently have technicians working on the issue. We will be using this forum only for travel updates should the need arise. For any queries, please contact our customer care number on 1850 300 604.

We will remind, on the eve of the hacker group TheDarkOverlord stated that he had received secret information associated with the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, and could publish it if he doesn’t get bitcoin – however, the ransom amount is not disclosed.
